2018 Montreal 2nd Edition Chinese New Year Concert

On the evening of January 10, 2018, the 2nd Montreal Chinese New Year Concert – World Classic Film Audiovisual Symphony Concert, hosted by the Montreal Chinese Culture and Arts Foundation (MCCAF) and the Canada-China Cultural Development Association (CCDA), was successfully held at the famous Maisonneuve Theatre in the Place des Arts in downtown Montreal!

This audiovisual feast, traversing classic world cinema, is a high-caliber concert presented by the Montreal Cultural and Arts Foundation to the Chinese community and local audiences in Montreal at the start of the 2018 New Year, adhering to its consistent mission of promoting Chinese culture, fostering Sino-Canadian exchange, building a cultural and artistic platform, and serving the Chinese community. It is also the largest and most prestigious performance by a national-level arts group to date to grace Montreal. The carefully selected and arranged program brings together the essence of Chinese and foreign film music, offering a rich and diverse selection. The innovative and unique art form that blends sound and image creates a comprehensive and immersive artistic experience.

The entire performance was a heartfelt offering from over 80 musicians of the China National Radio and Film Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the internationally renowned national first-class conductor, Mr. Peng Jiapeng. The China National Radio and Film Symphony Orchestra is one of China's earliest national-level orchestras. Alongside the development of Chinese film and television music, the orchestra has recorded music for nearly two thousand films, television programs, documentaries, and feature films. They have toured and performed in over 40 countries and regions, and have collaborated with renowned conductors, composers, instrumentalists, and dancers from around the world, performing symphonic concerts, world-famous operas, ballets, and other classic works. In recent years, they have continuously innovated, creating numerous large-screen audiovisual film music concerts, light music concerts, and other concert formats that are popular with audiences. Furthermore, the China National Radio and Film Symphony Orchestra is one of the few national-level festival symphony orchestras, and their New Year's audiovisual symphony concerts are particularly beloved by audiences both domestically and internationally.

The concert, meticulously prepared over six months, received strong support and attention from the local three levels of government and the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Montreal. It also benefited from the collaborative efforts and assistance of various Chinese communities and individuals in Montreal. Particularly noteworthy was the participation of the Montreal Dream Voice Choir and the Montreal Huaxia Art Troupe, with over one hundred members, along with special guests Mario Simard, a Quebec-based artist, and Jean-Francois Marquis, a renowned Canadian cellist. Their joint performance of classic masterpieces made this concert a grand gathering of Sino-foreign artists, showcasing their sincere collaboration and the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures. The theater was packed, and the rich, powerful sound, the flowing cinematic visuals, and the genuine exchange between Chinese and Western artists successfully combined elegant symphonic music with the visually engaging art of film, paying tribute to classics, celebrating youth, inheriting culture, and spreading art. The spectacular audio-visual feast brought warm New Year greetings and blessings to Montreal's film and music enthusiasts who had just experienced the extreme cold weather, and also set a rousing prelude to the exciting "Happy Chinese New Year" series of events to come in Montreal!
